Robert Lee McCune

February 18, 1939 — November 23, 2025

Robert L. McCune, age 86, passed away surrounded by his loving family. He was born on February 18, 1939, to Clifford and Thelma McCune.

After graduating high school, he immediately enlisted in the United States Air Force, where he proudly served his country for 21 years. Throughout his distinguished career, he was stationed at numerous bases around the world, dedicating his life to service, integrity, and leadership. His assignments included work as a Drug and Alcohol Counselor, Office of Special Investigations, and several other prestigious positions. He retired as a Technical Sergeant on August 31, 1978, leaving behind a legacy of professionalism, care, and commitment to excellence.

On May 25, 1958, he married the love of his life, Janice Reece, daughter of Lyle and Elizabeth Reece, at Mankato Christian Church. Together, they traveled the world with their two daughters, building a life centered around love, adventure, and family. No matter where the Air Force took them, he made sure his wife and daughters always had everything they needed-and more. His devotion to family was unmatched, and he was happiest when surrounded by those he loved most.

He and Janice shared a lifelong passion for restoring old homes and antique furniture, bringing new life and beauty to everything they touched. His craftsmanship, patience, and wisdom left an impression on all who knew him. They also owned and operated The Mainstreet Pub and The Sweden Creme, two beloved local businesses where they spent countless hours visiting with friends and people from the community. He loved listening to people share their stories, laughing over familiar faces, and being part of the community he cared so deeply for.

He is survived by his loving wife of 67 years, Janice McCune, and their two daughters:

Dee Freimuth, and her children Armeshia Onken (Ben), Seth Bartholomew (Lauren), and Tanner Bartholomew (Susan).

Leslie Walker (Bob), and their children Johnny Walker (Kristal), Cerissa Collins, and Ciara Lampmann (Brandon).

He was also a proud great-grandfather to Brooklynn Lampmann, Tristyn Lampmann, Caidyn Lampmann, Tessa Menke, Bryson Onken, Beckman Onken, Owen Walker, Olivia Walker, Tereus Eaton, Lincoln Bartholomew, Isabelle Bartholomew, Lainey Bartholomew, Reese Bartholomew, and Mia Bartholomew.

He will be remembered as a devoted husband, loving father and grandfather, proud veteran, and a man whose integrity, compassion, and faith guided every part of his life. His dedication to service-both to his country and to his family-will continue to inspire all who knew him.

"A life well-lived leaves its mark not only in accomplishments, but in the love and strength it gives to others."
