Lula M. Kennicutt, 89, former Perkins County resident, passed away on November 18, 2024, at Hilltop Estates in Gothenburg.
Lula was born on November 21, 1934, on the homeplace in rural Grainton, Nebraska, to Clarence and Inez (Martin) Knoles.
Lula married Robert William Kennicutt, and their union was blessed with three children: Melvin, Arlene, and Ron.
Lula's life revolved around her family and their farm life. She and Robert owned and operated a small farm, and she soaked up the simple joys of rural life, often enjoying the simplicity of just watching a pivot move methodically over a field, rhythmically arching water over the crops. A devoted mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, Lula cherished her time with her family. She was a passionate supporter of Nebraska volleyball, a pastime she loved sharing with her siblings.
Lula's thoughtfulness extended beyond her family as she liked to bake angel food cakes for the nursing home residents monthly and shared her goods at the local farmers' market alongside her husband.
Over the years, Lula lived in several communities, including Curtis, where she resided for nine years, and Hershey before settling in Paxton in 2016. She was known for her kindness, cooking, baking, and dedication to creating a warm and welcoming home for her family.
Lula was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Robert; her daughter, Arlene Steffen; and siblings, Mildred Leonard, Ann Benben, Lola Fear and Clarence Knoles.
She is survived by her children, Ron (Jolene) Kennicutt of Paxton and Melvin (Paula) Kennicutt of Arapahoe; son-in-law, Ed Steffen of Crofton; her siblings, Nyle Knoles of Wellfleet and Lyla Hahn of Elsie; eleven grandchildren; twenty-nine great-grandchildren and their spouses; three great-great-grandchildren; and many nieces, nephews, and other relatives and friends.
A memorial has been established in Lula's memory for later designation. Condolences may be shared online at bullocklongfuneralhome.com, where the services will be streamed live.
