Larry D. Johnson

LARRY D. JOHNSON, 78, of Grant, passed away October 26, 2025, at Perkins County Hospital in Grant.

Larry was born February 22, 1947, at Gothenburg, Nebraska, to Willard and Eleanor (Bratten) Johnson. He grew up in Broken Bow, where he graduated from Broken Bow High School with the Class of 1965.

After graduation, Larry attended Kearney State College for a time before marrying Lucretia Patterson in October of 1967 at the Berean Church in Broken Bow. The couple made their first home in Kearney, where Larry worked at a gas station and later at the Baldwin Filters plant. In the early 1970s, they moved to Grant, where Larry began farming.

Larry farmed for many years in the Grant area, and he enjoyed the rhythms of farm life and the satisfaction of working the land. From 1973 to 1999, Larry was active in agriculture before moving to Georgia, where he worked with his nephew, David, operating street sweepers. In 2014, he returned to Grant to be closer to family and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

Survivors include his children, Chad (Julie) Johnson and their children, Nick and Haley; Tyler (Kerri) Johnson and their children, Jaime (Justin) Laboi and their son, August, Keegan, and Riley; Melissa (Jared) Potts and their children, Eli, Josey, and Kenna; Celeste (Kenny) Johnson and their children, Jordan and Kendall; bonus children, Jennifer (Joe) Tatum and their children, Rally, Riggin, and Ryeker; Melissa (Josh) Conway-Patton, and their son, Evan; Celeste (Beau) Beam and their children, Kadance, Teagan, and Elijah; Shaina (Chad) Ostmeyer and their children, Noah, Harper, Bryleigh and Brooks. Larry is also survived by two siblings, Delane Johnson of Palm Beach, Florida, and Marlene (Jim) Davidson of Houston, Texas; along with many nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends.

Funeral services will be held Monday, November 3, 2025, at 10:30 a.m. at the Grant Evangelical Free Church, with Pastor Russ Gaar officiating. Interment will be held on November 4, 2025, at 12:00 p.m. CT at the Broken Bow Cemetery.

Visitation will be Sunday, November 2, from 3:00 p.m. until 5:00 p.m. at Bullock-Long Funeral Home in Grant.

A memorial has been established in Larry's memory for later designation by his family.
