JANET E. SCHRODER, 94, of Grant, passed away February 13, 2026, at The Birch at Sutherland.
Janet was born August 6, 1931, in Ogallala, Nebraska, to Vern Walker and Eloise (Bradley) Walker. She attended country school and later graduated from Ogallala High School.
On October 14, 1951, Janet married Lowell M. Schroder. The couple made their home on the family farm beginning in October of that year. They would enjoy nearly fifty years of marriage and were blessed with four children: Diann, Idonna, Teddy, and Thomas. Farming was woven into Janet's heritage. She grew up on a small farm herself, and as a girl, Janet would accompany her parents as they custom-harvested over the years. Life was always centered on the harvest, and as a farm wife, Janet faithfully supported the harvest crew with food and other essentials.
Janet was a longtime member of Ladies Aid and was active in the Texas Trail Extension Club. She was known for her warm personality, and people were drawn to her infectious smile and kindness. Friends often remarked that Janet never met a stranger. Even during her years at the nursing home, staff members would stop in on their days off simply to visit her. She had a quiet way of communicating. She was loved by many people who had the honor to know her. Even those that didn't.
Janet was preceded in death by her husband, Lowell Schroder; her son, Teddy Schroder; her parents; her brother, Robert Walker; and her sisters, Jean Abrams and Joan Van Tassel.
She is survived by her children, Diann Kollman (John Bowman) of San Antonio, TX, and Idonna (Jim) Elder of Imperial, and Thomas (Lissa) Schroder of Grant; grandchildren including Joshua (Liz) Schroder, Angela (Jerry) Baxter, Roy (Paige Harper) Elder, Candice (Rob) Schilke, Kurt (Sarah Janiak) Elder, Christine (Bryon) Talbert, and Eric Colvin; great-grandchildren, Angel Schroder, Eli Hallam, Blake Schilke, Brooke Schilke, Ashton Janiak-Elder, Elise and Grace Talbert; great-great-grandson, Robert John "RJ" Schilke; along with many other relatives and friends.
Funeral services will be held on Thursday, February 19, 2026, at 10:00 a.m. at Zion Lutheran Church in Grant with Pastor Michael Heckmann officiating. Interment will be in the Grant Fairview Cemetery.
Visitation will be held on Wednesday from 3:00 p.m. until 5:00 p.m. at the Bullock-Long Funeral Home in Grant.
