Irene Hahlweg

Irene Hahlweg was born on April 7, 1926 at Windsor Colorado. She was the youngest of five children born to George and Elizabeth Bruntz Margheim. The family moved to Kansas for a brief period when Irene was young before moving to Chase County, south of Venango Nebraska. Irene attended rural school through the 8th grade and then stayed home to help with the operation of the farm.
Irene was married to Roscoe Hahlweg on August 3rd, 1946 in Venango. Five children were born to this union. The family lived south of Venango. Roscoe died in 1972 and Irene continued to maintain the farm until 1992 when she moved to Sterling Colorado. She returned to Venango in 2007 and maintained her home in town until 2012 when she moved to the Sedgwick County Nursing Home in Julesburg. She had been in failing health when she died on Wednesday afternoon, April 15, 2015. She had recently had her 89th birthday.
Irene was always a hardworking farm wife and mother. She always enjoyed tending her garden. In addition to raising her own children she served as a babysitter for several years and the kids always enjoyed it when Irene took care of them. In earlier years she was an avid bowler and carried a high average.
In addition to her parents and husband, Irene was preceded in death by 2 brothers- George and Henry Margheim.
She is survived by 3 daughters- Dorothy (Mark) England of Broomfield Colorado, Linda Stasis of Wray Colorado, and Betty (Tim) Rawlston of Sioux City Iowa; 2 sons- Don (Janet) and Richard-all of Venango; 3 grandchildren and 2 great-granddaughters; 2 brothers- Vic Margheim of California and Fritz (Dorothy) Margheim of Estes Park; a half-brother, Richard (Karen) Berschauer of Oklahoma; other relatives and friends.
