Ina Faye Thompson, 100, of Grant, Nebraska, passed away November 1, 2026, at Western Sky Community Care Center in Grant.
Ina was born March 25, 1926, to Emil Daiss and Faye Helen (Attebery) Daiss, in a farmhouse southeast of Grant, Nebraska. She attended the District 15 Country School and graduated from Perkins County High School in 1943. She lived for a year in California with her sister Vona Lou, then moved to Denver and boarded with an aunt and uncle. There Ina worked in an accounting office and made many lifelong friends. She enjoyed snow skiing and walking along Cherry Creek.
In the summer of 1945, Ina returned to Nebraska and worked as a cook for the crews putting up hay for her brother Clayton in Arthur. There she met the love of her life, Loyal Thompson of Burwell. The two kept up a correspondence during the time that Loyal served in the Army and married on March 7, 1948, in Grant. Together they raised four children: Lex, Trudy, Allen, and Renae.
After a short time in Burwell, Ina and Loyal settled on the Daiss farmstead where she was born. Ina was a devoted wife and mother, and the farm was her home for the better part of 100 years. She loved growing flowers and working in her vegetable garden. The trees she planted transformed the farmstead. She kept a regular call list of friends she "looked after" and was a faithful member of the United Methodist Church in Grant.
Loyal and Ina loved the Grant community and in 2015 were honored to be chosen as Grand Marshals of the Perkins County Fair parade.
They were blessed to share 72 years of marriage together.
Ina was preceded in death by her husband, Loyal Burton Thompson; her son, Lex Thompson; her granddaughter, Amy Lynn Thompson; her grandson, Jovic Gould; her siblings, Obert (Margaret), Vona Lou (Warren), and Clayton (Lucille and Henrietta); her brothers-in-law, Leonard, Leland, and Lowell Thompson; and her sisters-in-law, Flossie, Agnes, Edna Mae, Virginia, Ferol, and Bertha Olive Thompson.
She is survived by her children, Trudy (Rod) Beemer of Imperial, Nebraska; Allen (Cyndi) Thompson of Rocheport, Missouri; and Renae (Mark) Bottom of Grant, Nebraska; her daughter-in-law, Jodi (Moreland) Thompson of Imperial, Nebraska; seven grandchildren, Jared (Lyndsey) Thompson of Seminole, Florida; Lacey (Beemer) and husband Matt Franzen of Hastings, Nebraska; Geoffrey (Jennifer) Beemer of Imperial, Nebraska; Leann (Thompson) and husband Seth Carruthers of Grant, Nebraska; Brian Thompson and partner Suzanne Curtin of St. Louis, Missouri; Whitney (Bottom) Soper and husband Troy of Grant, Nebraska; Kyle (Mariah) Bottom of Hershey, Nebraska; and nineteen great-grandchildren.
