Gregory "Greg" Lynn Sis, 64, of Elsie, Nebraska, passed away peacefully at his home on November 20, 2024 after a short courageous battle with cancer.
Greg was born on November 14, 1960, in Benkelman, Nebraska, to Dennis and Joyce (McDougal) Sis. He graduated from Perkins County High School with the class of 1979, where he was a standout athlete in multiple sports, including football, basketball, and track (where he won a state title in the low hurdles out of the eighth lane). He was a member of the 1978 State Class C-2 football team and was an All-State running back. He subsequently attended Creighton University and earned a degree in Agronomy from UNL.
On August 8, 1981, Greg married his high school sweetheart, Cheri Ann Norman, at Mother of Sorrows Catholic Church in Grant, Nebraska. They were blessed with four children, Nicole, Carlie, Jenni, and Derek.
In 1983, Greg and his brother, Terry, assumed operations at SISCO Fertilizer in Elsie, where they worked to serve the needs of ag producers throughout the area. Over the years, Greg sprayed well over a million acres the Greg Sis way-treating each field as if it were his own.
Beyond his professional life, Greg was a passionate and devoted family man. He loved his wife, children, and grandchildren with all his heart. He supported his kids and delighted in their accomplishments. He belonged to the Resurrection Catholic Church in Elsie where he was an acolyte and reader for 39 years. Greg found joy in many things: spending hours tending to his koi pond (savoring time with his "fin friends" who were decidedly coy around any other visitors but Greg), cheering for his favorite NASCAR drivers, watching movies, and listening to music. He was a lifelong, thick or thin, Raiders fan and he enjoyed riding his motorcycle at Sturgis with his friends. Greg had a way of wearing toughness on his sleeve, but his soft and gentle heart was evident in the way he loved his family. They made countless memories over the years, from vacations in the mountains and on the beach, horseback riding, attending Denver Nuggets games, or just spending time watching a movie together in his home theater.
Greg always took great pride in his yard, which was noticeable to anyone who came to visit. He didn't just cut the grass; he manicured it. Everything Greg did, he poured himself into wholeheartedly.
Greg was always tentative about attending social functions, yet he was typically the social center of gravity wherever he seemed to go. He had a magnetic personality that was fun and endearing. Despite thinking he never wanted to go places, Greg reliably had more fun than anyone by the time it was over.
Greg is survived by his wife, Cheri; his children, Nicole (Brent) Downey of Kearney, Carlie (Shay) Stutsman of Aspen, Colorado, Jenni (Kyle) Iske of Elkhorn, and Derek Sis of Omaha; his grandchildren, Ava, Owen, Luke, Jake, Crew, Stone, Sterling, Aiden, and Elsie; his siblings, Terry (Cori) Sis of Elsie, Tam (Terry) Kuenle of North Platte, and Pam (Don) Jorgenson of Sioux Falls, South Dakota; and many other relatives and dear friends.
He was preceded in death by his infant son, Gregory Jay; his parents; and his parents-in-law, Maynard and Bev Norman.
