Marguerite was born March 29, 1921, southwest of Madrid to Shirley and Elizabeth (Lorenger) Smith. She attended Perkins County High School in Grant.

Survivors include her children, Gary (Joan) Ott of Wallace, Kristy of Madrid; daughter-in-law, Starla Ott of Palisade; sister Marion (Ken) Harter of Sumner, Washington. Her grandchildren include Julie Kelley, Deanna Klosen, Crystal Bryant, Dalyce Deveny, Reid Ott, Travis Ogg, and Bert Gibbs; thirteen great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; along with many other relatives and friends.
