Dennis Schilling

February 14, 1943 — March 1, 2016

DENNIS M. SCHILLING, age 73 of Venango, passed away Tuesday March 1, 2016 at the Sedgwick County Hospital in Julesburg.

Dennis was born February 14, 1943 southwest of Grant to Adolph and Gertie (Albrecht) Schilling. Dennis was baptized at the Zion Lutheran Church in Grant and graduated with the Venango High School class of 1961.

On March 24, 1961, Dennis was united in marriage to Jan Bedell in Denver, Colorado. The couple made their home in Venango where they lived their entire married lives. Dennis and Jan were blessed with 3 children. Dennis worked for a few farmers in the tri-county area before starting with Dudden Brothers Farms in 1970 and transitioning into the fertilizer division in the early 70's. He remained in the fertilizer industry serving growers in NE Colorado and SW Nebraska for the remainder of his career, retiring in July of 2015. His retirement didn't last long, as Dennis didn't like having so much down-time. He decided to take a job with Performance Ag after just six weeks of being retired.

Dennis enjoyed his long career working in agriculture, and cherished the many friendships that he made with area growers over the years. His work was also his favorite hobby, and he genuinely enjoyed seeing his growers do well. He could often be found grilling steaks for the area growers meetings. Dennis was an ardent supporter of both Ducks Unlimited and Pheasants Forever. He also favored the occasional trip to the casinos from time to time. Dennis loved his family deeply, and like any grandpa, loved spending time with his grandkids.

Dennis was preceded in death by his parents and his brother Gerry.

Survivors include his wife of nearly 55 years, Jan of Venango; children, Randy (Robin) Schilling of Ozark, MO, Brent (Kim) Schilling of Omaha, Janel (Todd) Moore of Holdrege; 7 grandchildren, Austin (Jade) Schilling, Max Schilling, Carson Moore, Dylan Moore, Cody Schilling and Jessica Powell; sister, Marlene (Richard) Nodlinski of Folsom, CA, sister-in-law, Glennys Schilling of Grant; along with several nieces, nephews other relatives and friends.
