Cheryl L. Brott

Cheryl L. "Cheri" Brott, 77, of Madrid, Nebraska, passed away June 16, 2026, peacefully at her home in Madrid, lovingly surrounded by her husband and four children.

Cheri was born September 4, 1948, in Orange County, California, to Eldon and Beverly (Fitzgerald) Cornelius. She attended school in Grant through the eighth grade, including Perkins Pride country school south of Grant, before continuing in Madrid. She graduated from Madrid High School with the class of 1966 and subsequently attended Kearney State College. On November 25, 1967, Cheri married Harlan W. Brott at the Zion Lutheran Church in Grant, and their union was blessed with five children.

Cheri worked at the King's Inn and cooked at Wheatland High School before she and Harlan purchased the diner in 1990, owning and operating the Little Country Kitchen & Lounge in Madrid for nearly 40 years.

Faith and family were the most important things in Cheri's life. Cheri was a lifetime member of the Methodist Church with an unwavering faith in God. She treasured every opportunity in making memories with her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren.

Cheri was affectionately known and was a shining light in the lives of all who had the privilege of knowing her. Her journey on this earth was one marked by love and compassion. Cheri was known for her kindness and willingness to go above and beyond for anyone who needed her. All who loved her dearly will remember her distinct laugh and warm smile.

Cheri was preceded in death by her parents and by her son, Joel Brott.

She will be sadly missed by her husband, Harlan Brott of Madrid; her children, Terry (Karen Reynolds) Brott of Imperial, Kevin (Trina) Brott of North Platte, Kerri (Trev) Kleinow of Lamar, and Tonya (Randy) Meyer of Madrid; grandchildren; Toby Barnt, Coy Gager, Rylee, Aaron, and Mason Brott, Ashley Steele, Tyler Brott, Jamie McCord, Ryan and Krista Kleinow; eighteen great-grandchildren; her siblings, Dana (Linda) Cornelius, Jeana Anderson, and Joey (Dan) Ross; plus many other family members, and dear friends.

Funeral services will be held on Saturday, June 20, 2026, at 2:00 p.m. at the Elsie Methodist Church with Pastor Shanon Williams officiating. Interment will follow at the Madrid Cemetery.
