Alan Poppe

May 13, 1966 — October 18, 2018

ALAN POPPE, 52 of Grant, passed away Thursday, October 18, 2018 at Good Samaritan Hospital in Kearney.

Alan, was born May 13, 1966, in Ogallala, NE to LaVern and Pauline (Boehmer) Poppe. He graduated from Perkins County High School with the Class of 1985 where he was a memorable athlete.

On August 6, 1988 Alan married the love of his life Michele Stumpf at Zion Lutheran Church in Grant. The couple made their home in Grant and their union was blessed with three children; Brooke, Blake, and Alexander. Alan's faith was great in the Lord. In 2018, Alan became an official member of Mother of Sorrows Catholic Church.

For those who knew Al, he had zest for life that was apparent in his laugh and the way he lived. Alan had a love of the land which led him to his farming career. Over the years he tilled, planted, and harvested many an acre bringing his children in on the Poppe Farm adventure. He loved hunting with his sons, brothers, cousins, and whomever would fit in the blind. He was a passionate fan of Husker football and NASCAR racing. Family time was top of the list for Al and the annual NebraskaLand Days concert weekend made many many happy memories.

Alan was kind, and thoughtful possessing a very generous spirit, whether he was needed at Poppe's Posies to help with deliveries or remembering someone special with a surprise bag of sweet corn. Alan's genuine kindness always had a way of shining through. Alan's presence will be sorely missed by all who knew and loved him.

Alan was preceded in death by his mother Pauline; nephew Jeremy Eichner, niece Megan Poppe; mother-in-law Linda Stumpf and father-in-law Roger Stumpf.

Left to carry on his legacy are his wife, Michele Poppe of Grant; daughter Brooke Poppe of Vermillion, SD; sons Blake and Alexander Poppe of Grant; father LaVern (Wanda) Poppe of Grant; sister, Maria (Kim) Eichner of Ogallala; brother, Leland (Cathy) Poppe of North Platte; sister, Rhonda (Todd) Menghini of Scottsbluff; brother, Brian (Kristen) Poppe of Falls City; many nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends.
