Mary Jane Harger

MARY JANE HARGER, 80 of Madrid, passed away Monday, August 6, 2018 at her home, surrounded by her family.

Jane was born on January 23, 1938 on her Grandpa's farm ("Pazzie" Stevens) near Grant, NE to Mary Leonora (Stevens) Buchanan and Chester Buchanan. She grew up on the family farm at Madrid. She graduated from Madrid High School in 1956. She worked at TRW in Ogallala after high school until around 1965.

Jane married Larry H. Harger of Arkansas City, KS on July 30, 1960 at the Madrid Methodist Church. They made their home and raised their 5 children in Madrid. Jane worked at the post office in Madrid as a clerk starting in 1970 for 10 years an then became postmaster for 18 years and retired in 1998. She helped care for her parents until their deaths. Jane was a member of the Madrid Methodist Church. Following her retirement, Jane, Larry, and her brother, Don Buchanan, enjoyed traveling and visited 49 states and Nova Scotia.

Jane was a friend to everyone she met and loved by many.

Jane is preceded in death by her parents; brothers, Bill, Don, and John Buchanan; half-brother, Charles Buchanan; half-sister, Faye (Buchanan); her son-in-law, Russ Sandberg; and grandson, Tyler Sandberg.

She is survived by her husband, Larry; her children, Chester (Mary) Harger of Madrid, Sarah (Bill) Harder of Crab Orchard, NE, Morgan (Julie) Harger of Madrid, Donna (Kenny) Goodner of Madrid, Bill (Carla) Harger of Earlham, IA; 15 grandchildren; 20 great-grandchildren; Tiffine (Ben) Goodner and their daughter, Kassidee, Shad (Lacy) Harger, and their children Macy & Knox, Shane (Amanda) Harger and their children, Braidyn, Jace, & Ryler, Trent (Jenn) Harger and their children Jaymee, Tinley, & Tuf, Luke (Heather) Burd and their children, Lynn & Forrest, Levi (Erin) Burd and their children, Bentley, Brennan, and Bristol, Lydia (Jon) Paulson and their children, Chloe, Carter, & Charles, Joseph and Jeremy Olson, Destiny Beisner, Kallie Harger, Eric Sandberg, Riley, Payton, & Mackenzie Harger, Max (Andrea) Harder and their children, Noah and Emma; sister-in-law, Carol Buchanan; and 2 nieces, Tonya and Tammy of Lemoyne.

Memorials are suggested to the Madrid Cemetery in Jane's memory. Condolences may be shared at bullocklongfuneralhome.com.

Memorial services will be on Friday, August 10, 2018 at 10:30 a.m. at the Madrid United Methodist Church with Pastor Tammy Aubushon officiating. Interment of cremains will be in the Madrid Cemetery.
