Leon J. Kumor

June 5, 1935 — March 30, 2021

LEON J. KUMOR, 85 of Grant, passed away Tuesday, March 30, 2021, at the University of Nebraska Medical Center in Omaha, NE.

Leon was born June 5, 1935, at Imperial, Nebraska, to Joseph F. and Anna V. (Kiolbasa) Kumor. He attended District 84 rural school near Brandon before graduating from St. Patrick's Catholic High School in Sidney. Leon furthered his education at Colorado State University, where he was a member of the Alpha Gamma Rho fraternity and graduated with a degree in Agricultural Economics.

On June 30, 1958, Leon married Charlotte L. Gebauer in Akron, Colorado. The couple made their home on the farm west of Grant, and their union was blessed with two children, Ron and Maureen.

Leon was a lifelong farmer and was deeply gratified to have spent his life and career in agriculture and furthering the legacy of the Kumor farm.

Leon's hobbies might better be described as passions, and they included aeronautics and the Boy Scouts. Leon was a seasoned pilot and earned his Master Pilot Award, which is granted to active pilots who log 50 years without an accident. Leon's involvement with the Boy Scouts spanned five decades, and his commitment to the development of children was noteworthy. He received the Boy Scout Silver Beaver Award for Distinguished Service.

Leon served the Perkins County community in many ways, including his time as the Perkins County Emergency Management Director, Airport Advocate, and serving on the Grant Airport Advisory Board. During Leon's 60+ years of membership in the Grant Lions Club, he was honored as a Melvin Jones Fellow by the Lions Club Foundation.

Leon and Charlotte enjoyed numerous cruises and other vacations together and have many fond memories. Leon was a loving husband, good father, master pilot, steadfast mentor, accomplished farmer, and a devout Catholic. He will be greatly missed.

Leon was preceded in death by his parents; and siblings, Sister Mary Casimir, Frank, Daniel, Rose Krajewski and Josephine Foy.

Survivors include his wife, Charlotte of Grant; children, son, Ron (Joni) of Casper, WY, and daughter Maureen Johnson; grandchildren, Devon & Sven Johnson, Kammi (Albon) Shaw, and Laura (Mike) Stack; great-grandchildren, Jesi, Elle, Jayden and Ripley; sister, Victoria Kumor of Grant; brothers-in-law, David (Beverly) Gebauer and Van Sybrandt; along with many other relatives and friends.
