Darrell Hagan

May 15, 1934 — November 17, 2020

DARRELL CHARLES HAGAN, 86, of Grant, formerly of Madrid, passed away Tuesday, November 17, 2020, at Indian Hills Manor in Ogallala.

Darrell was born May 15, 1934, at Hamlet, Nebraska, to Roy Oliver and Florence Hazel (Cole) Hagan. He graduated from Grant High School in 1952. On December 16, 1954, Darrell enlisted in the US Army and was stationed near Sault Ste. Marie, Michigan. While there, he met the love of his life, Helen Gladys Gauthier and was united in marriage on February 18, 1956, in Goetzville, Michigan. He worked for several years at a rock quarry in Michigan before returning to Grant, where they started a dairy and farming operation northeast of Grant. He continued farming until retiring at age 80.

Darrell and Helen enjoyed traveling with their fifth-wheel camper, from the southern Texas border to Alaska. They visited Michigan several times, and Darrell planned his travel so each night, they could park at a casino. He loved fishing and deer hunting, as well.

Darrell also had a soft spot for his dogs, miniature donkeys, and his beloved horse, Faith. More than anything, Darrell loved his wife, Helen, and the family that graced their lives. He added warmth and vibrance to their gatherings, even if the warmth came from your ears and cheeks from well-planned embarrassment as he continued to chuckle in the background. Darrell, and his spirited ways, will be missed and remembered with fondness and smiles.

Darrell was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Don, Dale, and Delbert Hagan; and sisters-in-law, Ruth, Peggy, Bertha, and Betty Hagan.

Survivors include his wife, Helen; three sons, Ron and wife, Diane of Madrid, Mike and wife, LuRae of Grant, Larry and wife, Mary of Westminster, Colorado; ten grandchildren, Dustin Hagan, Roxanne Hagan, Jennifer Wright and husband, Zach, Jeremy Hagan and wife, Jane, Jyl Hagan, Erik Hagan and wife, Kara, Stephanie Grein and husband, Steven, Christine Dunton and husband, Jeff, Mindy Buhr and husband, Tony, and Audrey Meister and husband, Jon; eleven great-grandchildren, Russell and Abraham Wright, Henlie Hagan, Alex, Avery and Nora Grein, Rogue and Dagny Dunton, Baker and Beck Buhr, and Erik and Kara's baby due in March; a sister, Dortha Blumenkamp, and husband, Ray of Gering; along with many nephews, nieces, other relatives, and friends.
