BETTY M. PETERSON, 92, of Grant, passed away Thursday, January 28, 2016 at the Golden Ours Convalescent Home in Grant.

Betty was born September 11, 1923 at Douglas, Wyoming to E.R. and Martha (Werner) McNaughton. Betty graduated from Chappell High School as the Valedictorian of her class, and attended Mary Lanning Nursing School in Hastings.

Betty worked as a nurse during WWII on the west coast in the Army Nursing Corps. Following the war, Betty worked as a nurse in Julesburg, CO, and Chappell, NE. Betty also worked in Grant. Betty's nursing career spanned over 30 years. On October 10, 1956, Betty married Bob Peterson in Grant. They made their home near the First Congregational Church in Grant for 20 years before moving to a farm near Grainton in 1976. Betty broke her ankle in the mid 1970's which necessitated a slower pace. She took a job at the Golden Ours Convalescent Home in Grant, which didn't require as much walking. In 2008, Betty moved to Park Ridge Assisted Living.

Betty enjoyed traveling, and had the opportunity to visit many places throughout her lifetime. She had an adventurous spirit, and placed great value on education. Betty had a wonderful singing voice, and performed at countless weddings, funerals and other events. Betty was a longtime member of the First Congregational Church in Grant. She was a member of the Order of the Eastern Star for over 50 years and served as Worthy Matron.

Memorials are suggested to the American Breast Cancer Foundation in her memory. Condolences may be shared at bullocklongfuneralhome.com, where the service will be streamed live for those unable to attend.
