Delores Jean Harms

October 24, 1930 — January 4, 2017

DELORES JEAN HARMS, 86, passed away Wednesday, January 4, 2017 at Great Plains Health in North Platte.

Delores was born October 24, 1930 at Dalhart, Texas, the oldest of 3 girls, to John and Elma (Wiens) Wiebe. At the age of 15, the family moved to western Nebraska where they farmed. Delores graduated from Madrid High School as the Valedictorian of the Class of 1948.

On February 6, 1949, she married her high school sweetheart, Merlin Harms. The couple made their home on a farm south of Elsie and their union was blessed with 2 daughters, Cynthia Jean and Ronda Kay. In the mid 1950's the family moved to Denver, where Delores worked as a secretary/treasurer for a manufacturing company for 20 years, a company which she eventually came to have an ownership stake. Following her retirement, Delores enjoyed volunteering for secretarial duties at the Southern Gable Evangelical Free Church. In 2008, the couple moved to Grant to be closer to family. In July of 2016, Delores moved to Linden Estates in North Platte.

Delores' faith in Jesus was of integral importance in her life. She accepted the Lord as her Savior and was baptized at the age of 18. Delores nurtured her faith through church attendance and involvement in Bible studies. Spreading the message of Christ was a priority to Delores, and she did so through her participation in mission projects, women's ministries and Child Evangelism Fellowship, where she was a board member.

Delores was preceded in death by her husband of over 60 years, Merlin Harms in 2011; sister, Jackie Mickels; and brothers-in-law, Herb, Lee, Mel and Eldon; sister-in-law, Irene Sperling.

Survivors include her 2 daughters, Cynthia (Bill) Wright and Ronda (Dennis) Hutt, all of Grant; 7 grandchildren, Staci (John) Thompson of Highlands Ranch, CO, Scott Elam of Reno, NV, Gabe and James Wright of Grant; Janelle (Gregg) Uehling of North Platte, Valerie (Adam) Uthlaut of Hermann, MO, Andrea (Richard) Bazan of Laramie, WY; 10 great grandchildren, Evan & Corbin Thompson, Charlize Elam, Carson, Addison and Tyson Uehling, Lila & Lorena Uthlaut, Owen & Cora Bazan; sister, Connie Knoll of Omaha; brothers-in-law, Dale (Loretta) Harms of Arkansas City, KS, Jerry (Carolyn) Harms of Madrid; sisters-in-law, Lillian Harms of Grant, Irene Harms of Eads, CO; along with many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
