Roland “Ron” Wayne Ogg was born on November 29, 1943 at Cozad Nebraska. He was the youngest of seven children born to Fred and Leota Marie Mason Ogg. He grew up in Lexington where he attended school, graduating from Lexington High School in 1962.

Ron joined the U.S. Navy in June of 1962 and served 2 terms until his honorable discharge in 1970. He served aboard the U.S.S. El Dorado during the Vietnam War. Ron was a V.F.W. member and a past member of the Madrid American Legion.

Ron was married to Kristy Ott on November 29, 1971 at the Grant United Methodist Church. They made their home in Madrid their entire married life. Ron worked for Valley Irrigation and later was head of the custodial services at the Perkins County Courthouse until heart problems forced his retirement in 1997.

He had a heart procedure performed in Omaha the first part of October and had returned to Madrid on October 10. He had an apparent heart attack early Monday morning, October 12, 2009. He was transferred to the Perkins County Community Hospital in Grant where he died. He had reached the age of 65.

In addition to his parents, Ron was preceded in death by three brothers- Frank, Francis, and Charlie; one sister- Zelma Titus. He is survived by his wife, Kristy of Madrid and 2 sons- Travis of North Platte and Bert, attending Mid Plains Community College in North Platte; 2 brothers- Bert of Madrid and Jerry and his wife Sharon of Stockton California; mother-in-law, Marguerite Ott of Grant; other relatives and friends.

Funeral services will be held on Thursday, October 15 at 10:30 a.m. at the Grant United Methodist Church with Pastor Richard Savage, officiating. Burial will be in the Madrid Cemetery with a flag presentation by the Perkins County Veterans. A memorial has been established.
