Erma Kuskie was born on April 15, 1922 in Perkins County north of Brandon Nebraska. She was the youngest of nine children born to John and Emma Wostenberg Bauer. When Erma was a young girl, the family moved to a farm southwest of Grant. She attended rural school and later attended Perkins County High School where she graduated with the class of 1942.

Erma was married to Ralph Kuskie on April 28, 1943. They moved to their farm home west of Grant in 1944 where Erma lived the rest of her life. Erma had been failing in health but with the help of her children, she was able to remain in her home. She had gotten up, had breakfast on Wednesday, and died peacefully in her chair later that morning, April 28, 2010. She had reached the age of 88.

Erma had been a member of the Grant Zion Lutheran Church and a previous member of the Lutheran Ladies Aid. Erma worked hard in her life and was always interested in the welfare of her children before herself.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her four brothers and four sisters, and her husband Ralph who died in 2005. Erma is survived by 5 sons - Charles and his wife Nina of Venango, Walter of Golden Colorado, Larry and his wife Norma Jean of Grant, Jerald of Elsie, and Edwin of Grant; 3 daughters - Karen Romer of Bennett Colorado, Shirley Kuskie of Grant, and Joyce Barnett of Colorado Springs; 16 grandchildren and 27 great-grandchildren.

Funeral services were held on Saturday May 1, at 10:00 a.m. at the Grant Zion Lutheran Church with Pastor Ron Krause, officiating. Burial was in the Grant Cemetery.
