Doralyn Salsman was born on August 26, 1929 at Holyoke Colorado. She was the youngest of three children born to Leroy (“L.W”) and Edna Christensen Kuskie who lived in Grant. She grew up in Grant where she attended school and graduated from Perkins County High School in 1947. After graduation, she taught briefly in a rural school in Perkins County.

Doralyn was married to Charley Salsman on May 23, 1948 at the Methodist Church in Grant. They made their home on the Salsman ranch in Chase County southwest of Grant. In 1954 they moved to their farm home four miles southwest of Grant. Charley died in 2008 and Doralyn continued to maintain the farm until December of 2010 when she moved to Grant due to declining health. She died peacefully in her sleep on Wednesday morning, August 10, 2011 at her home. She had reached the age of 81. Doralyn enjoyed gardening and tending to her plants and flowers.

In addition to her parents and husband, Doralyn was preceded in death by two daughters - an infant, Rita Ann Salsman and Marcia Hunt who died in 2007; her two brothers - Harold and Drew Kuskie. She is survived by one son - Dick and his wife Cindy Salsman and one daughter - Anita and her husband Rex Burge, all of rural Grant; four grandsons - Kyle and his wife Nancy Salsman and Kody Salsman, Chris and Tim Burge; one great-grandson, Carson Salsman; her brother-in-law, Jim and his wife Joyce Salsman of Grant; other relatives and friends.

Funeral services will be held Saturday August 13, 2011 at 10:00 a.m. at the Grant United Methodist Church with Rev. Rich Savage officiating. Burial was in the Grant Fairview Cemetery. A memorial has been established to the Make-A-Wish Foundation.
