Deryl Stott was born on March 18, 1942 at Fullerton Nebraska to Floyd and Iva May Gruber Scott. He grew up in Wolbach where he attended school. Deryl enlisted in the United States Army in 1962 and served in active duty until 1965. He served with the Army Reserves from 1965 until 1968.
Deryl worked as an over the road truck driver for most of his working life taking him from coast to coast. He was living in Sterling Colorado when he discovered Madrid in the early 1990’s. He lived in the potato plant building for several years. He helped Jack Stevens with caretaking at area cemeteries. After the Madrid ethanol plant purchased the ground where Deryl lived, he moved to the Kosmicki farm home west of Madrid where he lived until his death.
Deryl had developed a malignancy and had been admitted to the Perkins County Community Hospital in Grant the 2nd week of February. He died at the hospital on Tuesday, February 16, 2010. He had reached the age of 67.
His body was cremated. A memorial service was held on Monday, February 22 at 1:30 p.m. at the Bullock-Long Funeral Home in Grant with John Long officiating. Burial of cremains was in the Madrid Cemetery.
