Date of Death: 01/15/2010
Date of Funeral Service: 01/18/2010

Bruce Peak was born on January 18, 1916 on the Peak family farm south of Madrid Nebraska. He was the fourth of seven children born to Floyd and Vada Inman Peak. In 1924, the Peak family moved to a farm in the Blanche area southwest of Elsie. He attended school through the 8th grade at District #36. Bruce helped his father farm and he was married to Grace Lawson on February 6, 1935 at Grant. One son, Carl, and two daughters-Norma and Verna, were born to this union.

In 1939 Bruce and Grace moved their family to Coquille Oregon and then to Albany in 1941. Bruce was employed by a plywood mill where he was promoted to a foreman in 1941. In 1944, the family returned to the farm in Nebraska where Bruce took over the operation due to his father’s failing health. Bruce farmed until 1966 when they moved to Grant. He served as the custodian at the Perkins County Courthouse until he retired in 1981. Bruce stayed active in his older years and with the help of Grace, he was able to stay at home until the end of December when he was moved to the Golden Ours Convalescent Home in Grant. He died at Golden Ours early Friday morning, January 15, 2010 - 3 days short of his 94th birthday.

Bruce was a member of the Grant Lions Club for 31 years where he was a willing worker and ready to offer his help wherever needed. He was also a long time member of the Grant United Methodist Church. He enjoyed the outdoors and farming was always his first love. He appreciated the times he was able to go down and help his son-in-law at his farm near Imperial.

In addition to his parents, Bruce was preceded in death by five sisters- Violet Edmond, Vesta Bartol, Goldie Keller, Virginia Shores, and an infant, Gurna Peak; one grandson, Dary Fitzpatrick and a granddaughter-in-law, Kristi Peak.
